What is an internet domain?

Post by suchona.kani.z »

If you had to identify your site by its IP address, it would be pretty complicated, right? Domains eliminate this problem by providing users with an easy way to identify a location on the internet.

This is also why it is always better to try to get a simple and easy to remember domain name.

Imagine you have an online store for pet products. Do you think your customers would remember the domain “amicianimali.com” or “tuttiiprodottiutiliperanimalichevuoi.com” more easily?

Well, I don't think any further explanation is needed.

So, the domain is the web address of your site. But what exactly is it for?

An internet domain is the address of your website that users laos email list enter into their browser's search bar to visit it.

It is unique and unambiguous: this means that there cannot be multiple sites with the same extensions and domain name. Simply put, it unequivocally identifies your identity.

The structure of domains
The classic format in which web addresses are written is very well known, but let's take an example for clarit.

Each section of this URL has a name and a function. In particular, a complete web address is made up of four parts:

The protocol (HTTP, HTTPS, HTTP/2...);
The subdomain which may be present in the form of WWW, absent, or have another word that identifies its function (for example BLOG, INFO...);
The domain name, your online identity;
The Top-level Domain - TLD - also known as an extension which can vary depending on the country and organization (.com, .it, .co.uk, .org, .net...).
The domain name and extension make up the Root Domain , or main domain.
