While large retailers may be able to absorb the costs, smaller independent businesses operating on tighter margins are suffering the most. And this comes at a time when small businesses will feel the pressure of new import control charges of up to £145 on even small consignments of some foods from the EU.
in the hardest hit areas, coupled with shortages of inventory, will further drive additional costs along the supply chain, which will again be passed on to consumers.escent Regional Hospital, a Texas hospital industry email list that is set to become the first in the United States, and in the world, to use holograms for doctor-patient visits, has installed “Holobox,” a 3D system that projects a life-size hologram of a doctor so that real-time medical visits can be performed with patients.
Designed by Dutch company Holoconnects, the hologram will present an image of the doctor in a pre-recorded video or in live real-time video. The screen will be 86 inches tall and will have anti-reflective glass and a transparent LCD screen for a life-size, realistic holographic display, as well as hi-fi speakers and a multi-touch operating system.
“The results have been very promising, especially in terms of patient engagement,” says Raji Kumar, CEO of Crescent Hospital. “Hospital patients feel like they’re talking to their doctor in person. The 3D effect is actually pretty magical.” The hologram, Kumar says, provides a more realistic and immersive patient experience than video or phone calls with remote doctors.
