The importance of the elections of the Boards of Directors of the National Congress
On February 1, 2025, Brazilian politics turns its attention to the Chamber of Deputies and the Federal Senate, where elections for the Boards of Directors of the National Congress will take place.
The election will define the new presidents of both legislative houses, positions of extreme importance for the conduct of parliamentary work and for dialogue with the Executive Branch. Candidates and disputes for the presidency of the Chamber and the Senate
In the Chamber of Deputies, three names are being put forward to succeed Arthur Lira (PP-AL), who is ending his second term as head of the House. Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB) is emerging as the favorite, backed by a broad party coalition that includes parties from different political spectrums, such as PL, PT, MDB and PSD.
