Who are driven will stand out

These capabilities have left many employees panicking about GenAI replacing them in the workplace. However, according to the report, there is no real sign that business leaders will want to automate knowledge work at any scale.

“One of the patterns we’ve seen over the years is the oft-used phrase, ‘You can’t take shortcuts to success,’” Bechtel says, explaining that there are typically two camps of leaders: “short-termers,” who view emerging technologies as a short-term fix, a way to do the same thing with fewer people, and “long-termers,” those who want to use emerging technologies to do their jobs better. It’s the latter group that is most successful.

“I think entrepreneurs because they will use argentina mobile database as rocket fuel to fuel their ambitions, not as a license to save money,” Bechtel says.

Other studies have reached similar conclusions. An IBM survey found that the most common GenAI use cases that business leaders prioritize include improving content quality, providing competitive advantages, and upskilling employees rather than reducing headcount.

Deloitte's findings also suggest that the real benefits of using GenAI in organizations lie in using the technology to optimize business operations, not to reduce headcount.

“The true value of GenAI will likely be unlocked when organizations can use it to transform business functions, reduce costs, fundamentally change product, service and innovation cycles, and deliver previously unachievable process efficiencies,” Deloitte said in the report.

In each of the above scenarios for optimizing business operations with GenAI, not only the business as a whole benefits, but also each employee. For example, if a company uses the GenAI model to collect all of its data and compile it into a searchable database, the process benefits everyone in the organization and also benefits the organization’s operations.

But if replacing knowledge workers isn't the main negative impact of GenAI, there are a number of serious risks associated with the technology that business leaders should be prepared for.
