Think about who you know who sees

Post by zakiyatasnim »

NISOS researcher Dev Badlu says: “There was something wrong with this recording. It looks like they just took individual words, cut them out and put them together.”

Badlo explains that he knew it was fake because the audio had a lot of peaks and valleys, which is not normal for human speech. Moreover, when he turned down the volume of his voice, there was “dead silence” in the background, without any extraneous sounds — a sure sign of a fake.

Rob Volkert, another NISOS researcher, said criminals could algeria number data test the technology to see if they would get calls back. In other words, it's just one stage in a complex operation.

“The voice in the recording sounds very human. It remains to be seen whether it is a robot or actually a human,” says Volkert. “I would say it is a human. But not their CEO.”

Although the deception was uncovered this time, Folkert, Badlo and their colleagues believe that this is a sign that criminals have begun to experiment with the technology, and the attempt will clearly not be the last.

“The ability to generate audio files expands the toolbox of cybercriminals, and ultimately they still have to use social engineering tactics to persuade someone to take action,” the NISOS report says. “Criminals and state structures learn from each other, so as such cases become more well-known, we expect more people to use the technology and adopt other people's experiences.”
