Imagine another type of situation, where you need to communicate (perhaps verbally) the address of your website to one of your customers.
By now you should have fully understood how important it is to have a unique and easy to remember domain name and how much it can impact your image and that of your business.
What are the domains?
Once we have established the importance of the domain, it is time to go into a little more detail and understand exactly what it is and what the domains of the internet are.
A URL is made up of five main components:
Protocol: https://
Subdomain or third level domain : www
Domain name or second-level domain : The name you choose for your address
Extension or top-level domain: the one that appears after the final . (.com, .it, etc.)
Root domain: the combination of the top-level and iraq email list second-level domains, the part of the URL that is most commonly referred to as the “domain”
Domain: URL structure
Domain Types
As we have seen, there are different types of domains. Let's dig deeper and see what a top-level domain is.
In English Top Level Domain (TLD), it is the main component of an address, that is, what appears to the right of the last dot. It is often also defined as a domain extension.
For example, in the address, the first level is .it.
The most common (or ordinary) top-level domains are:
.com: for commercial websites
.org: for non-profit organizations
.net: Extensions for Internet Service Providers
.int: Restricted domain for companies operating internationally
.edu: reserved for professional institutions
In addition to these there are:
Country code top-level domains (ccTLDs), which are managed independently by each country, such as .it for Italy, .ch for Switzerland, .es for Spain or .fr for France.
