Whatever you think of it, TikTok is big. It became the world’s most downloaded app in 2020. And in July, the platform became the first non-Facebook-owned non-gaming app to reach 3 billion downloads .
In the Netherlands, the app is also one of the fast climbers, as we already saw in the social media research for 2021. Both the number of users and daily use increased enormously. Short form video is hot. Although… TikTok once consisted of videos of 15 and then 30 seconds, but since last month it has also been possible to upload videos of up to 3 minutes. And tests are being done with videos of 5 minutes (and longer). A logical step that brings TikTok closer to the competition from YouTube and Facebook and creates more space for advertisements.

The Feed, Stories, IGTV, Reels, Guides and Shopping… Kirsten Jassies already mentioned it at the end of last year in her trend overview : there are many forms of content and opportunities to profile yourself on Instagram. Instagram shopping is unstoppable, but it was still a matter of waiting to see whether Reels would make it. For now, it seems to be working and the function is being developed hard to keep up with the competition. Video is therefore one of the spearheads of the app, Instagram head Adam Mosseri explained this summer, because, he said:
Instagram is no longer a photo-sharing app.
New features
This is also reflected in the new features that have been launched or are in development. They are aimed at both entertainment and the user-friendliness of video formats on Instagram. Reels for companies
