Don't think that you can "keep an idea in your head" for that long. Either you concentrate on your reading, but then the idea disappears again after a short time and you rack your brain trying to find it again. Or you don't forget the idea - but then I guarantee you that you are only reading with half your heart and the reading was not particularly efficient.
As an alternative to a notebook, it can also be EverNote – or Trello (on my smartphone or tablet).
