Many users or small and medium-sized studios often choose to purchase multiple enterprise-class hard disks in order to store important files. Use it in a desktop computer. However, if you have purchased a new enterprise-class hard drive and the SATA power cable is plugged in, but the hard drive does not transfer to the system at all and cannot be read from the hard drive, it may be due to the influence of the Power Disable (PWDIS) function. oh!


PWDIS is the abbreviation of Power Disable. It is an industry standard function released by the SATA-IO organization in 2016. It is suitable for SATA and SAS devices. PWDIS provides a software-controlled hard drive power-off method. It utilizes the 3.3V output in the L-type SATA 15 Pin power interface of most desktop computer power supplies, and uses Pin 3 on the hard drive side as a power-off Signal input pin. As long as the hardware supports it, you can use this pin to remotely power off and power on the hard drive.

In the past, the traditional definition of SATA pins on the hard disk side was that Pin1 to Pin3 were all 3.3V power supply pins. (pictured below)
