The Limitations of the Review System

the editorial staff cannot accurately verify all the information contained therein
It is possible to write and have paid reviews written on TripAdvisor
It contains some geographical errors (wrong locations, incorrect names of the premises, premises are listed in the provincial capital cities even though they are actually located in towns far from the capital

some places appear multiple times with slightly different names

premises sometimes host inappropriate reviews relating to new mobile database management that has taken over the same address
photos associated with locations outside the geographical area covered

Last December, the company ended up in the crosshairs of the antitrust: fined half a million euros for having spread “misleading information on the sources of reviews” online, such as to be able to mislead a large audience of consumers. It is working hard to minimize the problem but, by the company's own admission, avoiding false reviews online is impossible. However, this policy cannot avoid the phenomenon of fake accounts , or those who describe a positive experience “on command” to favor a hotel, or a negative one, to damage competition.

The Era of Easy Reviews. The web in recent years has made it much easier for consumers to find information about products or services before purchasing. This information often, if not always, responds to the name of reviews: in fact, today's online consumers no longer trust passive and overbearing advertising to promote their products but trust more in the experiences of others, in that feedback coming from people who have actually tried the product or service.
