Yes, and then I started my semester abroad at the University of Aberdeen in Scotland. This university was much, much older than my Ruhr University - but at the same time it was much more modern!

To my horror, I saw that there were no card indexes available to help me find books in the library, but rather... computers!

I spent three days walking along the shelves with my head tilted, looking for certain book titles. Then I realized that this would not lead to success and would take too long. It also gave me a sore neck.

So I sat down at one of these latvia telegram screening devil boxes and
… was thrilled!

I had never researched so quickly and efficiently. Not only did I immediately and finally find the books I had been looking for for three days! I also found other literature through cross-references!

When I returned to Germany, it was already clear: I need a computer!

Happy coincidences!
After I returned, my fellow student and friend Janine went to Sweden for a semester abroad and I took over her assistant job at the Institute of Mechanics. They really wanted an Anglicist, as the technical language there was English and I was supposed to manage the departmental library.
