After you develop the two Views in Analytics, you are ready to create the right filters.

To create a bot traffic filter for referral sources:

Go to Analytics admin panel > view column > click Filters. And that’s it.


It's a good idea to give your filter a name that's easy to identify.

Then, choose the filter type "Custom" > "exclude certain traffic" > "Filter field".

Now you just have to save your filter and that's it.

In the case of creating a bot traffic filter for direct sources you must:

Create a list of every valid hostname you know; for small to medium-sized sites, this will only include your primary domain.
