Are we getting stupid or changing?

Niantic Labs CEO John Hanke has said in interviews that they are trying to predict the evolution of mobile computing. Hardcore Ingress players are eagerly awaiting the time when they can start searching for portals not on their phone, but on Google Glass, but that's only a small part of the picture.

The first "evidence" is the appField Tripfrom the same Niantic Labs. Field Trip constantly “hangs” in the smartphone’s memory and, depending on the selected frequency, shows nearby landmarks and other interesting places (along with information from sources such as Wikipedia and Zagat, as well as selected publishing partners), almost coinciding with the location of portals in the game. The second direction is quite utilitarian: testing and optimizing application functions that use all the new capabilities of dj email database list mobile platforms (geolocation, sensors, etc.). For example, over the past year, Google has seriously reduced the energy consumption of applications using GPS, without which it would have been impossible to create Glass. And I bet that the work of Ingress played a significant role in this.

Finally, Google is facing the acute problem of monetizing new mobile platforms. It is unlikely that users of glasses will like banners popping up without warning. Thus, Niantic turns partner brand points into Ingress portals, places QR codes in stores that, when scanned, give game bonuses, or announces promotions and discounts in Field Trip.

Interestingly, at least for now, user movement data is not shared with Google Maps or other services — that wasn't even the goal when Ingress was created. That will almost certainly change over time, but for now, Niantic Labs is free to continue telling a compelling and engaging story of the Enlightened versus the Resistance.
