In recent years, Microsoft has stepped up the pace in developing its database server solution "SQL Server". Versions are being released at increasingly shorter intervals. One reason for this is the changed focus of the (now no longer new) boss Satya Nadella on the " Mobile First, Cloud First " principle. Mr. Nadella is particularly focusing on the Microsoft cloud computing solution "Azure". An ever-increasing share of sales is to be made here. All infrastructure and application solutions at Microsoft must either be revised or developed from scratch in order to achieve this ambitious goal.

The changed focus led Microsoft to invest more in cloud services and therefore in SQL Server. Since Microsoft was now not only using its own products more internally, but also wanted to offer them as a cloud platform, the pressure to a) improve the products and b) develop bosnia and herzegovina telegram screening them faster/more agilely increased significantly. Developing two different versions of SQL Server ( on-premises and cloud ) was not sustainable in the long term. It was therefore decided to merge the development strands of SQL Server 2014 and Azure SQL Database. Since then, the two products have been combined and all features are developed for both the cloud and on-premises. This fact means that all features that are new in the SQL Server 2016 release have already existed in the cloud version for some time.

Faster development and shorter release cycles allow Microsoft (and us as customers/users) to benefit from not having to wait years for improvements. The flip side of the coin is that we have to be more careful to keep up with the development of SQL Server. Old software has to be dragged along or replaced. Many customers ask themselves: Which parts of SQL Server are actually important for my area of application?
