What are IDN domains?

IDN domains are web addresses with special characters. How do they work? What are the advantages and disadvantages of using IDN domains?
ORIn addition to the letters of the Latin alphabet, domain names can also contain special characters with umlauts and diacritics. These are IDN domains (or internationalized domains).

What is an IDN domain?

How do IDN domains work?
The current domain name resolution standard would not allow the use of non-ASCII characters. However, a conversion system has been created to make the use of these special characters compatible.

This system is called IDNA (Internationalizing Domain Names in Applications) and relies on the Punycode encoding of Unicode to convert characters not supported by DNS into more supported characters.
