The name change is also intended to get users to stop seeing the company only as a social media company and to position itself as a technological matrix behind products such as Instagram, Messenger or WhatsApp, in addition to its own products related to the development of the metaverse and virtual reality, such as Oculus or Horizon Worlds.
As we told you at the time, in March 2020 the social network began sending invitations to a group of beta testers for its new social virtual reality app Facebook Horizon, in what was its first step in building virtual worlds before Workrooms.
As the company explained at the time, “Before entering Horizon for the first time, people will design their own avatars from a variety of style and body options, ensuring everyone can fully express their argentina business email database individuality. A year and a half later, Facebook has decided to give this project a new spin, changing its name to Horizon Worlds and launching a $10 million creator fund (around €8.6 million) to encourage more people to come and build with us while we continue to implement Horizon in beta. Perhaps this name change holds one of the keys to Facebook's future name, which will follow the path taken by Google in 2015 when it decided to rename its parent company Alphabet.
