21st century education is changing considerably. New technologies are driving much more dynamic and interactive learning models and classes such as gamification , mobile learning and flipped classroom .
When we talk about this last methodology we are talking about the flipped classroom. It is a form of learning that suggests transferring the work of certain processes outside the classroom in order to use class time, together with the teacher's experience, to facilitate and enhance other more complex cognitive processes within the classroom.
In other words, the flipped classroom proposes that students study and prepare lessons outside of class , accessing the subject content at home, either through their tablets or mobile devices or through their computers, so that they can then do their homework in the classroom, interact and carry out more participatory activities, analyse ideas and/or debate among themselves, among other things.
Flipped classroom proposes that students prepare the class at home
What are the advantages of Flipped Classroom?
The methodology of the classroom of the immediate future brings with it various advantages for both students and teachers :
Flipped classroom adapts more easily to the pace of each student , allowing them to progress with less pressure and with customizable material on many occasions.
The flipped classroom allows teachers to focus on much more interactive and participatory face-to-face classes since they will have more time to prepare debate activities, resolve doubts, games, practices, etc.
Assessments are no longer “traditional” but rather focus more on how students develop content and what they contribute to the acquisition of knowledge and to the work to deepen and expand subjects. This part of the flipped classroom is related to what is known as connectivism .
Family members also become an important support with this way of teaching, as they can become much more directly involved in the education and training content of their children, which is much more participatory lawyer name list than the usual homework .
The spirit of teamwork is encouraged , something that students will find very useful in the working world and which, in turn, reduces cases of (cyber)bullying as well as communication problems in the classroom .
From a technological point of view, access to content through ICT means that students must seek or understand how digital resources work .
How to achieve it?
All these advantages of the flipped classroom not only motivate students and make the most of their time in the classroom, but they also promote learning and improve their work and personal relationships. But how do I turn my classroom into a flipped classroom?
Videos : There is no flipped classroom without educational videos, which will surely be a hit with the “ YouTube generation ”. To implement it, you have to create a channel on any of the platforms available for this purpose and the content uploaded should not last more than ten minutes.
Social media : from setting up exercises in closed groups to finding information, social channels offer a wealth of possibilities for encouraging classroom participation and developing work.
ICT : In addition to everything we have already mentioned, ICT proposes new assessment models such as those offered by digital platforms like Socrative , which allows you to create online questionnaires and personalized assessment sheets.
Endless platforms : for creating infographics, for editing videos, for downloading images, for music, educational platforms offering thousands of activities, for creating concept maps, etc.
